MASS VS. WEIGHT VIDEO

Hello!  Welcome to MFHS, class of 2019!  My name is Mrs. Anderson & this is my 14th year teaching in Menomonee Falls.

MY EDUCATION
I graduated from UW-LaCrosse in 2002 with majors in Secondary Education & Broadfield Science and a minor in Biology. In 2006, I received my master's degree in Curriculum & Instruction from Marion College.

CLASSES I TEACH
This year I am teaching 9th grade Physical Science.  I am excited to explore the worlds of chemistry, and physics with you, using a hands-on, inquiry-based approach.

PHYSICAL SCIENCE "I CAN" STATEMENTS:
By the end of the school year, your child will have mastered the tasks outlined in the following "I Can" statements
  1.  I can use the scientific process, identify the independent and dependent variables, and demonstrate proper use of equipment while conducting an experiment.
  2. I can collect and use accurate data when creating a graph of experimental results.
  3. I can classify matter into groups based on phase or class and differentiate between chemical and physical changes.
  4. I can identify a properly written chemical reaction and explain how atomic structure impacts chemical reactions.
  5.  I can describe, analyze, and calculate the motion of an object in one direction.
  6. I can explain demonstrate how forces interact when using a machine and the effects this has on work and power.
  7. I can identify the major forms of energy and explain how they relate to the law of conservation of energy.
  8. I can explain how the motion of molecules impacts heat, heat transfer, and changes in phase.
  9. I can identify wave characteristics and explain how waves move through mediums.
  10. I can write a graphical analysis for a linear graph, and determine if a graph supports or contradicts a simple hypothesis or conclusion.
  11. I can write a scientific document (lab report) to convey the collected results of an experiment in a coherent and understandable manner.

PHYSICAL SCIENCE GRADING POLICY:
There are many factors that will contribute to the final grade you earn in Physical Science.
Your final grade will be based off of the following components:

LABS:  will make up 20% of your final grade
HOMEWORK: 10%
QUIZZES: 20%
UNIT PROJECTS: 10%
TESTS: 25%
FINAL EXAM: 15%

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
I am the Junior Class advisor and help plan homecoming activities in the fall & prom in the spring :)
